Kankakee County Congressional District 2012

After the 2010 Census, the Illinois State Legislator was charged with redrawing the Illinois Congressional Districts.  For the November 2012 election, Kankakee County is in the 2nd Congressional District currently held by Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr..  Jackson will face challenger Brian Woodworth in the November 2012 election.  Kankakee County is currently in the 11th Congressional represented by Republican Adam Kinzinger.  Here is the map of the new 2nd Congressional District:

March to End Violence in Kankakee

Hundreds gathered at the Kankakee County Courthouse tonight to remember artist Robert Bell,who was left for dead after an apparent robbery on Greenwood Avenue in Kankakee, Joseph Buckner, who was shot and killed in on South Lincoln Avenue in 2011, and all affected by violence.  The marchers made their way to the site of Mr. Bell's death chanting: "Who's streets? Our Streets!" and "End the Violence!"  At the site of Mr. Bell's death on Greenwood, relatives of both Mr. Buckner and Mr. Bell spoke, thanking the marchers for their presence and expressing hope for an end to the senseless violence that has affected their family forever.

This man spoke in memory of slain artist Robert Bell who donated many paintings to various people and charities throughout the years, giving above and beyond what was asked

Community members tired of violence in Kankakee will march tonight from the Kankakee Courthouse to South Greenwood Avenue where Kankakee artist Robert Bell was found dead.  The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Kankakee County Courthouse.

Kankakee Valley Park District offering Ghost Hunting Course



The Kankakee Valley Park District is offering a Ghost Hunting 101 Course starting January 20th at the Bird Park Meeting Room.  More info from the park district's web site:

Instructor: Juli Velazquez, President & Founder of I.S.P.I. (International Society of Paranormal Investigators)
Instructor, Juli Velazquez, has been investigating for twelve years and has been featured on WCIA New (ABC Affiliate), The Travel Channel (Ghost Adventures), the SyFy Channel, The Movie The Possessed and SyFy’s latest documentary Children of the Grave II.With the popularity of the paranormal TV shows today, this workshop will introduce you to ghost hunting, how to properly conduct an investigation, EVP and audio, ghost photography, and the history of the haunting. It will give you some insight on how to be a real paranormal investigator and how to debunk paranormal activity. Students will conduct hands-on investigations of an alleged haunted location, and learn how to analyze audio. A certificate of completion will be give to each participant who takes all 5 workshops. *To take part in the 5th workshop it is required that you take the first four!
